Barcelona are close to finalizing the transfer of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, while Bayern and Liverpool were likely to compete for the Englishman through high financial means. This was reported by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

According to Dzherel, the Munich club was seriously pursuing the possible signing of a 25-year-old football player, but did not want to pay the amount that Newcastle had won. Liverpool took a similar position.

Another journalist for The Athletic, James Pearce, suggests that the Merseysiders also recognized the price of security and switched to other candidates.

In fact, Barcelona was willing to pay close to 80 million euros for the transfer in order to make Gordon one of the most expensive additions in the history of the Catalan club.

It is expected that in the near future the Englishman will arrive in Spain to undergo a medical examination and sign a contract.

Previously, it was reported that Barcelona was still waiting for all the details to agree with Newcastle. The base amount for transfers in stock is 70 million euros, and another 10 million are transferred in the form of bonuses.

In the 2025/26 season, Gordon made 46 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists. Liza, the champions, scored one of her own goals at the Barcelona gate.
