Shakhtar defeated Zorya in the central match of the 28th round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL). The match at the Lobanovsky stadium in Kyiv ended with the score 0:3. Donetsk club on its 87th birthday very quickly took the lead. Already in the 5th minute Georgy Sudakov scored with a beautiful shot into the far corner after Alexander Zubkov's pass. At the very start of the second half, the Lugansk team remained in the minority - Igor Snurnitsyn could not restrain his emotions and hit Zubkov's legs from behind in the center of the field. The referee rightly punished the Zorya player with a direct red card. Igor Jovicevic's team realized their numerical advantage and hit the opponent's goal twice more before the final whistle.
In the 59th minute, Artem Bondarenko scored from outside the penalty area, and in the 83rd minute, Kevin Kelsey put the point in the game. Shakhtar (69 points) strengthened their leadership in the UPL. Two rounds before the finish, the Donetsk team are ahead of Dnipro-1 by 5 points. Zorya (61 points) is third and has lost its chances for the championship. In the next round, the Pitmen will play against Dnipro-1 on May 28 – even a draw will allow Shakhtar to win the title. Patrick van Leeuwen's team will meet Oleksandria on the same day.
