The next pandemic could be significantly more dangerous than COVID-19. This opinion was expressed by one of the creators of the vaccine AstraZeneca Sarah Gilbert, reports Sky News.
“This will not be the last time a virus threatens our lives and livelihoods.. The truth is the next (pandemic) could be worse. (The virus) can be more infectious, more deadly, or both, "
She also commented on the new omicron coronavirus strain. According to her, there are mutations in the spike protein of this species that increase the ability of the virus to transmit.
“But there are additional changes that could mean that antibodies produced by vaccines or due to infection with other strains may be less effective at preventing omicron infection,” Gilbert said..
The expert urged to adhere to preventive measures until the omicron is sufficiently well studied.
