The French President delivered a speech to the soldiers in the capital of Niamiya, where he defined clear directions in the fight against Islamists from various terrorist groups, including IGIL. Recall that France is operating "Barchan" in the region since 2014. In the region of Niger and Mali, there are now about four thousand soldiers. The troops are trying to support the legally elected government, which is still unable to take control of remote, desert areas of the state. The troops also ensure the safety of humanitarian mission personnel in Mali.
"The goal of Barchan is to counter Islamist groups," notes Macron.
