The choice of the date for the holiday of the Ukrainian military was connected with the appearance of the Law of Ukraine "On the Armed Forces of Ukraine". It is noteworthy that the document was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on December 6, 1991, and the holiday was formally established two years later.

It should be noted that this holiday is common for all arms of the armed forces, each of which has a separate holiday.

The events of 2014 showed the urgent need to strengthen the defense capacity of Ukraine and carry out reforms, this year was a turning point in the history of the Ukrainian army.

And during these years, the APU resumed its combat capability, gained experience, the fleet of military equipment was significantly increased. Also, a new defense policy was developed, implying an increase in the financing of the country's defense sector, reforming and functional optimization of all AFU units, and bringing the Ukrainian army in compliance with NATO standards by 2020.

On this day, the military traditionally congratulates the Ukrainian president and other authorities, held festive events, laid flowers to the graves of the Unknown Soldier.
