Canada imposed sanctions against 30 Russian citizens

According to the Canadian Foreign Ministry, the sanctions relate to individuals who, in the opinion of the Government of Canada, are responsible for gross violations of internationally recognized human rights or acts of significant corruption.

In addition, the relevant sanctions will be applied to the accomplices of such persons.

Assets and accounts of individuals on the "list" will be frozen within Canada and they will be banned from entering the country in accordance with the law on migration and refugee protection.

The Canadian Foreign Ministry noted that the authorities have for a long time "expressed deep concern about the case of Sergei Magnitsky, in particular the fact that this case reflects the state of the Russian justice system and the rule of law".

Among the citizens of the Russian Federation in the list of sanctions were the head of the investigation committee, Alexander Bastrykin, the former head of the Investigative Committee of the Interior Ministry Alexei Anichin, as well as Judge Sergei Podoprigora, who decided to arrest Sergei Magnitsky in 2008.



As previously reported, URA-Inform, Sanctions against Russia were extended by four countries Ukraine, as well as three other European countries decided to extend EU sanctions against Russia. These sanctions were decided to be extended until March 2018.. Such data are in the EU Declaration on the agreement by some states of restrictive measures concerning Russia's actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, as well as the sovereignty or independence of Ukraine.
