It is expected that the Norwegian vessel Yara Birkeland can independently use GPS, radar, cameras and sensors to navigate traffic among other boats and docks. The approximate cost of the ship is about 25 million dollars, which is three times more expensive than a conventional vessel of similar size. However, investors promise that without the need for fuel or the summer operation of the crew, the costs will be reduced to 90 percent.

"Yara Birkeland will first work as a manned vessel that will switch to remote work in 2019, and it is expected that it will be able to perform fully autonomous operations from 2020," the company website.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, BBB in Bristol Bay found a century-old ship.
