According to him, it was the battle for Ilovaysk that brought the heaviest one-time losses in the course of the war - that day more than 300 Ukrainian soldiers of the Armed Forces, the NSU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"At the same time, despite absolutely unfavorable conditions, the Ukrainians showed outstanding military valor and heroism, inflicting heavy losses on the superior forces of the Russian grouping. On this day, as well as the heroes of the Celestial Hundred, the heroes of Ilovaisk demonstrated that Ukrainians will repulse the Russians, despite the worst losses and privations. That the Ukrainian army will not flee before the Russians. Butusov emphasizes that any pro-Russian propaganda and symbols, including the notorious St. George ribbons, Soviet flags, should be banned.
