After completing the world tour in support of the musical "The Greatest Showman," actor Hugh Jackman told Telenedely whether it was easy for him to part with the clutches of Wolverine and when he fell in love with his future wife.

With a smile on Hugh's face, admit it honestly: is this your attempt to maximally retire from Wolverine's image? After all, the role in the new film is strikingly different from the image of the superhero, to which the viewer is accustomed for the decade of the "X-Men".

I'll begin with the main thing: the idea of ??creating the "Greatest Showman" appeared in 2009. I then held an Oscar ceremony, and producer Larry Mark decided to beat me up for a joint project on show business. I did not think about the end of Wolverine's career. "Logan" - the last film where I played this character - was not yet on the agenda. But as a result, everything turned out to be logical. Larry told me: "You've worked with success in four plays on Broadway, but everyone knows you as a member of the Marvel universe. Let's do something completely new! ". We hit on the hands, and another seven years went the preparation and production of the film.

So, did you represent your future when you studied at the theater school?.

I dreamed of a career as a serious dramatic actor. On the first musical audition - in the play "Beauty and the Beast" - I went to the age of 26. Of course, I was asked to sing. I then thought that my agent was drunk when he decided to put me in a musical. But ... It was in Australia, and the audition was successful!.

Have you ever studied singing before?.

Never! I was given a teacher, and all year I was engaged once a week. The quality of my vocals improved in the literal sense of the word in the course of the play. Then we toured the world with this production.

You must have a powerful natural gift! But Hollywood, alas, rarely takes off musicals in our days.

In "The Greatest Showman" there are dance and song numbers, so we took risks with the producers. Since the last big successful studio musical, "Moulin Rouge", more than 20 years have passed. We were fortunate that La La Land shot last year and was kindly treated by spectators and awards.

Why should your film become successful as well?.

This is a film-emotion. He opens his heart, makes you cry, laugh or dance. There are films whose task is to teach something. We just want to entertain people during the holidays. Our spectators will leave the hall with a smile on their face.

Think about where you want to be. You are a very positive person.. Even the history of a malignant tumor on the nose you made public. What do you recommend to people who are hard in life - except watching your movie?.

You have to be honest with yourself. If someone is the cause of your troubles, talk to them personally, and do not discuss with everyone around you.. I have had periods in my life when I tried to ignore problems, thinking that they would dissolve by themselves - so it does not happen. Think about where you want to be and where you need to move. The most important thing is to start traffic.

Stop making catastrophes from your life troubles. Even in my case - people very rarely die from carcinoma on the nose. Yes, I talked about it openly. Firstly, I wanted to remind you how important it is to use sun protection, and secondly, that there are no rumors in the style of a spoiled phone.

In the film, your hero, Phineas Barnum, has a daughter whose cherished desire is to become a ballerina. On her birthday, her father gives her ballet pointe shoes, she dances in a school setting: a dream come true! Did you have something similar in your childhood?.

In my room on the wall hung a map of the world. I was terribly anxious to travel a lot, to visit all corners of the planet. Next to it was a poster with the singer Olivia Newton-John. Then I met my future wife and only after years realized that they are very similar in appearance. That is, I was programmed as a teenager to marry! On work I travel a lot and my family life is very pleased - we Deborra for 21 years together!.

The universe has supported me. Children often want to be like their parents, you did not have such a period?.

My father often went on business trips, because he worked as an auditor. For a while I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I had no idea what accountancy was, but I liked the beautiful jacket with a tie and his office overlooking the ocean bay in Sydney.

It was hard to tell my father-auditor: "Dad, I want to become an actor"?.

I was worried. At that time I had already graduated from the university and received a diploma in communications specialist. After school, I wanted to be a journalist!.

That's why you are so good at interviewing!.

Exactly! I understand the profession. So imagine: I'm 22 years old, I have a fresh diploma on my hands. Suddenly I decide to become an actor and take the entrance exams. Second education in Australia - already paid. It cost A $ 3,500 for the year of training. I thought how to talk to my father about this, but I did not dare. At the end of the week, I receive a check from my grandmother on the paternal line by mail: she left me an inheritance. Guess how much she bequeathed to me?.

Three and a half thousand?.

Exactly! I swear, it is this amount. I was incredibly happy and at the same time I realized that my destiny was to become an actor. The universe has supported so obviously! Then I told my father about my decision, and he said: "Son, this is the best way to spend grandmother's money! ". For which I am grateful to him to this day.

Do your children want to become actors too?.

My daughter thinks about it, but can not decide for sure yet. At the moment, the spread is: a rock star, an actress, a dancer, a chef and a baker.

And the son?.

Oscar wants to become an agronomist, work in a third world country. To conduct traditional farming, but at the same time to introduce new technologies. It impresses me, I myself at the age of 17 did not think about it.

What films are they watching? Do you attend father's premieres?.

Son is unlikely to go to see "The Greatest Showman". He's from a generation that can only master short shows on YouTube - for an hour and a half they do not have enough attention. Although Oscar loves old black and white dumb comedies and revised all the series of "Monty Python" when he was bored to sit in the phone.

Your daughter starred in "The Greatest Showman". Did you contribute?.

Awa begged me to take her with me to the playground, but I said I would not do it. Then she found an agency that was gaining an extras, and submitted an application through them. As a result, she appeared in one scene. To my joy, her role was not even cut out!.

Of course, with such and such a father!.

I did not ask anyone, it was the choice of the editor - to use that double. He did not even know what Ava looks like.

In which scene can you see it?.

In the circus, in the first musical number. There it can be seen close-up!.

Spectators love everything unusual. As a co-producer of the film, did you have a decisive word in casting the rest of the actors?.

Of course.

Is it easy to convince you?.

My heart starts to bleed, whoever comes to audition. I missed a lot of castings so as not to pass through these torments. Sometimes, I had no idea who was coming to see us - as was the case with Zendai Coleman. I asked my daughter if she knew who it was. Ava nearly had a heart attack: "Dad, are you kidding? She is a great actress! ". The studio also really wanted Zendai, and I thought: OK, after all, it's your money.

Coleman at the age of 20 became part of the franchise about Spider-Man, and in the next film she is portrayed as the hero's girl.

Yes, I heard about it. Very smart girl and knows exactly what she is doing in life. And the film only benefited from Zendai's participation, because she speaks the language of a new generation of fans.

Your character is trying to exploit the talented people who come across his way. Do you justify it?.

He knows that the audience loves all the unusual. In his youth he traveled with a circus circus, and there he had a very creative boss. Once asked Barnum to put on the best suit and to advertise the circus on the central square of a small town.

The locals almost beat him. When the guy told the boss about it, he revealed the secret: "Yesterday at a local pub I told you that you are a former priest who now practices striptease in a circus". - "So it's not true! "-" It does not matter, but tonight we will have a full room! "So Barnum learned from the most acidic lemons to make lemonade, glue a beautiful label and sell at exorbitant prices. Not bad, by the way, the recipe - they are still used in show business (laughs).
