For me on the way to the goal, and at the moment it's getting a win in the duel on May 6, hard work and hard workouts are important. For the sake of the set goal it is necessary to fight every day with laziness and self-pity. This is the secret of success.

I started boxing at the age of five, and since 2008 I am in favor of Ukraine in heavyweight in the professional ring. And I am absolutely convinced that in sports there are no miracles.

Roman, on May 6 you have a fight for the IBO Intercontinental Championship title. Tell us about him?.

I have a strong, tough and aggressive opponent - the German Kai Kurzawa, so the fight is expected to be difficult. It will be held in Germany, in the city of Weisswasser and will be broadcast online on the channel Eurosport in the evening. I am in favor of Ukraine and I am proud of it.

This is a very important duel for you, and for Ukrainian boxing as a whole. How do you prepare for it? For this fight I am preparing with great care. We with the trainer worked a lot, studied in detail the weak points of the opponent. I think for me there will be no surprises, I'm looking forward to winning the fight by knockout.

Now I'm training in Germany under the leadership of Shamil Kerimov. First I pass general physical training, and then there are sparring sessions. My morning starts at seven, and at nine I'm already at training.

What fights were most significant in 25 years of your professional career?.

Hard to say. All fights are important for me in their own way. But the most important, probably, for the title of European champion in the version of IBF, which took place last year in my hometown of Vinnitsa. My rival was the boxer from Georgia Gogita Gorgiladze. The duel was timed to the celebration of the City Day, so I felt a huge responsibility to my fellow countrymen, the fans.

At the end of last year there was another landmark battle for you.

Yes, on December 17 in the German city of Torgau I successfully conducted a rating battle against a rival from Argentina Alejandro Emilio Valori and already in the first round ended the fight with a knockout. Every victory gives me even more confidence in my strength and that my opponent will have a hard time on May 6 (laughs).

And how did you decide to become a boxer?.

In general, I have a sports family: my father is a master of sports of international class in cycling, my mother is a master of sports in track and field athletics,. In the boxing section, my father and I were brought. Actually, thanks to the parents, I achieved such results.

Who else would you like to meet in the ring? Tell us about your goals for the near future?.

Most of all I want to fight against Marco Huco. And the goal this year I set myself the maximum: to become a world champion!.

What kind of person are you outside of sports? Who supports you?.

I have a wonderful wife and son. I believe that a man is created to be a warrior and an earner, and at the same time the father of the family. In the ring I am a warrior, in the family - a loving husband and father. Support and believe in me are close people - family, brother, friends.

Is your wife on fights?.

My wife is very worried when she sees me in the ring, and I do not want this emotion transmitted to me, because we are one, we feel each other's emotions. Therefore, during the fights, the wife stays at home and prays when I box.

With sports everything is clear, but how do you like to relax?.

I prefer active recreation somewhere in nature. And I really love to read.
