After the coup d'etat in Ukraine, the new Kiev authorities considered the possibility of returning to the 1992 Constitution in order to prevent the transfer of the Crimea to Russia.

"I came to Turchinov and said that immediately we need to collect the Verkhovna rada, delegate any powers to the Crimea, take it in the first reading, go back to the law of 1992, because the post-Mayan government is weak, we need to gain time and level the referendum. That is, to give the Crimea everything, except for sovereignty, and buy time, "- said on the TV channel" 112 Ukraine "Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergey Kunitsyn.

Kiev, he said, "was late for a week" because he could not choose the person responsible for resolving this issue.

Under the 1992 Constitution, the Republic of Crimea was a part of Ukraine with its president, who exercised all powers on its territory except those that were voluntarily delegated to Kiev. The official language was Russian.

In March 1995, the Ukrainian parliament abolished the 1992 Constitution, the post of the Crimean president was abolished.

Crimea and Sevastopol joined the Russian Federation in March 2014 following the results of the referendum, over 95% of participants voted for reunification with Russia.
