The American embassy in Moscow never gave the representatives of the Russian government an official congratulation on the Day of Russia. In the Foreign Ministry, the situation with the missing postcard was called a "mystical history".

This year Moscow received many congratulations from the heads of foreign affairs agencies of several countries, but the state agencies did not receive congratulatory addresses from Washington. According to Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the department has never tracked the receipt of congratulations on individual countries, since "it is a matter of protocol, etiquette, somewhere upbringing".

Not receiving a postcard from representatives of the US State Department, Russian officials did not pay much attention to this. But the strange statements of the American side aroused the interest of the Foreign Ministry in this situation.

"Honestly, we turned our attention to this history after strange statements that we heard from Washington. Before these attempts to explain, we somehow did not think about it. But after what we heard, it really became interesting, and realized that the story is mystical. I had to deal with this issue, "Zakharova explained..

USA and in previous years stood out against the general background. On the Day of Russia, they in an informal manner posted congratulations on the website of the State Department, "which in principle does not correspond to generally accepted diplomatic practice". However, this year Washington "changed to itself - the State Department officials said that they have changed the order and now congratulations are transmitted through the US Embassy". But, according to Zakharova, "it turned out that the US embassy in Moscow did not convey any congratulations to Russian state bodies".

At the same time, the State Department website continues to publish congratulatory messages to other countries. From the beginning of June, the US foreign policy department congratulated Italy, Sweden, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Great Britain and the Philippines via the Internet with national holidays. This leads to the idea that congratulations on the Day of Russia were not published intentionally.

"It seems that colleagues are confused, it is very difficult to understand what is happening there. Perhaps, in the conditions of a global anti-Russian panic, they are literally afraid of some kind words about Russia. As you understand, we will survive all this, as always with a smile, but something they all got confused, "Zakharova concluded..

The Russian Embassy in the United States earlier reported that the United States authorities for the first time did not send congratulations to Moscow on the Day of Russia. "We can confirm that the American side did not receive a congratulation on the Day of Russia. This is the first time in our memory. Conclusions do it yourself, "- said in a message on the Facebook page of the mission.

In the press service of the State Department, the lack of congratulatory address was explained by the "new approach". "We no longer extend congratulations as press releases. But we host them on our website. Officially, they are handed over through our embassies. We do not distribute them ourselves, but we do not object if the recipient countries do this, "said a US foreign service officer.
