In social networks, a great stir caused a decision of the Verkhovna Rada, which by 269 votes approved the introduction of language quotas on Ukrainian television.

According to the decision of the parliament, at least 75% of Ukrainian-language content is provided for nationwide channels and 50% for regional "in each period from 7:00 to 18:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00 hours".

Internet users are hotly discussing this innovation.

"They have established a requirement for television to show at least 75 percent of the programs in Ukrainian. Including news. Congratulations to the authors of the law, headed by Nikolai Kniazhitsky and Victoria Syumar from the "Popular Front". The experience of banning Russian serials and setting quotas on the Ukrainian radio says that this gives a perfect impetus to the development of Ukrainian culture and related industries. To everyone who creates - inspiration, "- writes People's Deputy Yegor Sobolev.

"Congratulations, the Law" On Language Quotas "is adopted! Glory to Ukraine!" - rejoices Zoryan Shkiryak.

"The newly adopted Law of Ukraine" On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine on the Language of Audiovisual (Electronic) Mass Media "along with the absolute protection of the Ukrainian language fully ensures the development of television in the Crimean Tatar language as the language of one of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, People's Deputy Refat Chubarov.

"The Ukrainian quotas on the radio have pierced the way for quotas on TV!" The next stage should be a new law on language, so that foreign, not Ukrainian, quotes, "said Vyacheslav Kirilenko, Vice Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy.

"Of course, I wanted television to be 100% Ukrainian-speaking. But let's be realistic: the law passed today by the Verkhovna Rada is to a certain extent a compromise in the concrete historical conditions.

Therefore, this law is progressive and returns historical justice. I am grateful to Nikolai Knyazhitsky, Victoria Syumar, Vadim Denisenko and other authors of the bill. So this convocation of parliament has not yet exhausted its potential. And personally I have a very big doubt, the next convocation will be the best in everything, unless the existing parallel electoral system is changed, "writes the first deputy head of the Central Election Commission Andrei Magera.
