Le Pen heads the extreme right-wing National Front party, but immediately after the first round of elections hurried to distance herself from her.

At the time of preparation for the second round, she departed from the leadership of the party, saying that she would act as a candidate from all patriotic forces.

The day before it became known that Le Pen entered into a pre-election alliance with another right-wing politician - leader of the "Get Up, France" movement, Nicolas Dupont-Enjanom. In the first round he took the 6th place with 4.7% of the vote.

The first round of elections was won by Macron, who collected 24.01% of the vote. Le Pen became the second with 21.3%.

The second round will be held on May 7.
