The destruction of the monument to the soldiers of the UPA near Przemysl by Polish nationalists is a reflection of a new round of tension between Kiev and Warsaw.

Such an opinion in the commentary to the "Observer" was expressed by the analyst of the International Center for Advanced Studies Evgeny Yaroshenko.

"By itself, an appeal to history, other than emotion and playing on electoral sentiments, usually does not threaten anything. As a rule, an appeal to the past does not create dividends for the future. But in the case of the Ukrainian-Polish relations, the situation is somewhat more complicated. Ukraine largely depends on political support from Poland. If 3 years ago Warsaw was considered a lawyer of Ukraine in the Western structures, now Poland's attitude became more cool and pragmatic. Polish society is becoming more and more nationalistic and conservative.

Therefore, Warsaw will increasingly take into account the problematic issues of history, "- said Yaroshenko.

According to him, Poland is not affected in any way by historical discussions in Ukraine.

"But Ukraine, alas, is a weak side in this conflict, because it depends more on Warsaw than on Poland from Kiev," the international correspondent concluded..

As reported by the "Observer", Ukraine reacted to the open dismantling of the UPA monument in Poland.
