For the first time in history, the head of the National Bank of Ukraine was invited to a meeting of the General Council of the European Central Bank. This was reported by the NBU press service on Facebook following the results of the spring meeting of the IMF and the World Bank..

NBU Governor Kirill Shevchenko was invited to an ad-hoc meeting of the ECB General Council, which usually includes the ECB President, the ECB Vice-President and the heads of the national central banks of the 27 EU member states.

The NBU notes that this is an important step for Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU, as it will allow to join the dialogue with the ECB and other EU central banks, represent the position and interests of Ukraine, and also be more involved in discussions at the level of the European System of Central Banks.

Meetings are held once a quarter.

The next ad-hoc meeting of the ECB Council with the participation of the NBU will take place in early May, and the regulator hopes that they will take part in such meetings on a regular basis, taking into account Ukraine's course towards joining the EU.

The National Bank emphasizes that this will help to integrate even more into the European community of central banks and achieve the goals of the Association Agreement. It will also bring the banking system of Ukraine closer to the norms and standards of the EU for further entry of the Ukrainian economy into the EU common market.
