The victory of Ukrainian companies in international arbitration in The Hague over Russia in the case of compensation for loss of access to assets in the annexed Crimea can have important consequences in the long term.

About this "Apostrophe. Economy "was told by the permanent representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Boris Babin.

"Such arbitration decisions as evidence of illegal alienation by the occupation authorities of property in the Crimea are among other things important for interstate processes on behalf of Ukraine in the European Court of Human Rights, because they discuss issues of violation of the right to peaceful possession of property guaranteed by the Protocol to the 1950 Convention, and , perhaps for the processes against the Russian Federation in arbitration on maritime law - again, evidence of a policy of unlawful expropriation of property, "said Babin.

He also noted that among the companies that have won arbitration, there is the TRC "Gis", which can play a role both in the processes in the European Court of Freedom of Media and in the UN International Court of Justice on the issues of racial discrimination regarding the restriction of broadcasting in the Crimea in Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages.

In turn, international expert Vera Konstantinova points out that the arbitration award in The Hague can be a lever for bringing to Russia compensation for the destruction of the infrastructure of Donbass.

"It seems to me that this decision is a kind of an opportunity for Ukraine to increase pressure on the Russian Federation through economic levers," the expert said..
