Recall that European sanctions against Russia were introduced on July 31, 2014 in response to the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea. Since then, sanctions, including for aggression in the Donbass, are periodically reinforced and extended.
The duration of these sanctions, which are aimed at the energy, defense and financial sectors of the Russian Federation, expires at the end of January 2018.
