It is reported that the cause of the incident was the attack of a detachment of Russian mercenaries and supporters of the Assad regime in the number of about 500 fighters at the US outpost in eastern Syria.

The outpost is located five miles from the Euphrates River near the demarcation line separating the troops supported by the United States and the forces of the Assad regime that Russia supports.

It is noted that the militants opened fire from mortars, tanks and artillery. When the shells began to explode in dangerous proximity from the positions of the US special operations forces, they requested a massive air strike.

American troops attacked the attackers with a flying artillery battery directly supporting Lockheed AC-130, F-15, F-22 fighters, Apache attack helicopters and ground-based marines artillery. According to media reports, more than a hundred mercenaries were killed.

At the same time, none of the US military was even wounded.

As reported, according to some sources, the number of soldiers killed in Syria, the Russian private military company "Wagner" in the zone of strikes caused by the United States, reached 215 people.

In turn, US Secretary of Defense Gen. James Mattis, commenting on the defeat of the mercenaries PMC "Wagner" Americans, said that the Kremlin denied the presence of its troops in the region.
