Lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya expected to transfer to the son of US President Donald Trump the results of his investigation into the head of Hermitage Capital William Browder. This, according to the Wall Street Journal, she said in an interview. In particular, the lawyer had information about how the American firm Ziff Brothers Investments, connected with Browder, evaded taxes in Russia and then transferred them as donations to the US Democratic Party. However, as stated in the publication, Trump Jr. did not show interest in this information. According to Veselnitskaya, she did not coordinate the meeting with the government structures of Russia and denies that the meeting with Trump's son was organized at the request of Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika. On July 11, Trump Jr. posted a tweet on Twitter with producer Robert Goldstone concerning the possibility of getting his father's campaign headquarters compromising documents for a candidate for the post of head of state from Democrats Hillary Clinton. Trump's son explained his actions by wanting to be completely open. The day before it became known that Donald Trump Jr. held in June 2016 a meeting with Veselnitskaya, hoping to receive from her compromising material on Clinton. It was reported that the head of the presidential campaign of Trump Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law. The newspaper claims that Veselnitskaya has "connections with the Kremlin". Trump Jr. told NYT that at a meeting that took place in the Trump Tower in New York City, Veselnitskaya could not confirm the presence of her compromising material on Clinton. Later, the lawyer denied the allegations that she helped the Kremlin influence the results of the presidential elections in the United States. She stated that she has no ties in the Kremlin.

Veselnitskaya also reported that she has no compromising evidence on Clinton and "there was never any intention of possessing such information". Russia was repeatedly accused of interfering in the election of the US president. American journalists and officials claimed that "Russian hackers" allegedly stole the correspondence of democrats and published on the Internet, and also tried to penetrate the electronic system of counting votes. Moscow denies such accusations.
