Adviser to the US President for National Security John Bolton said that the US administration does not exclude the holding of both "defensive" and "offensive" cyber operations to protect the "integrity of the electoral process". His opinion Bolton expressed in an interview with the ABC television channel, reports DW.

Counselor Donald Trump said that the question of interference in the electoral process is not simply connected "with the Russians". Bolton admitted that two weeks before the interview, he held a meeting with the heads of four departments, where possible measures were discussed. At the same time, the politician specified that "there are many things that we do that we can not talk about specifically".

The interviewed journalist asked about offensive cyber attacks, which the director of the ANB Paul Nakasone mentioned as a response to "any pre-election intervention". In response, Bolton reiterated that this is classified information.

The politician also expressed confidence that the US is using "the full range of opportunities to protect not only elections, but also a number of vulnerable systems in the US".

Bolton also pointed out that Washington does not want cyberwar. "We want peace in cyberspace. And to do this, I think we need to create deterrence structures so that our opponents who conduct cyber attacks against us or who simply watch them understand that they will pay a much higher price if they do it than if they simply abstained, "Bolton added..
