Representatives of the Democratic Party in the US Senate demanded that the largest international banks provide information on accounts owned by Russians in the so-called "Kremlin report" of the US Treasury.

As the DW reports, Senators Jin Shahin and Sheldon Whitehouse sent the corresponding letter to three large American and five European banks.

According to the message, the letter was sent to the US Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Citibank, as well as to German Deutsche Bank, British Barclays and HSBC and Swiss UBS and Credit Suisse.

The senators demanded that financial institutions provide information about whether they conducted a check in the last five years to determine whether any accounts belong to the persons involved in the report.

If such a verification was carried out, banks should report its results. Otherwise, they must inform what was done to identify possible ties with businessmen from the closest circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Taking into account their wealth and relations with the Russian authorities, many oligarchs in Russia enjoy or are subject to significant political influence," the letter says..

As noted, if the banks refuse to provide information, the senators will require more stringent measures against them, including a state investigation.

Recall, January 30, the US Treasury published the so-called "Kremlin report", which lists the names of Russian officials and businessmen close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A total of 210 names are listed: 114 senior Russian officials and 96 oligarchs, according to Bloomberg.

In particular, the list includes the Russian oligarchs Oleg Deripaska, Roman Abramovich, Vladimir Potanin, the brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, Gennady Timchenko, Alisher Usmanov, Igor Sechin, Alexei Miller, Oleg Tinkov, Suleiman Kerimov and others..

The "Kremlin Report" is drafted in accordance with the Law on Countering US Enemies through Sanctions, which was adopted in the United States in the summer of 2017. The sanctions were strengthened due to the continuing aggression against Ukraine, and also because of interference in the presidential elections in the USA in 2016.
