Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak on the air of the ZIK television channel said that Ukraine is beginning to suffer from a lack of water.

The Minister also noted that the level of filling of rivers in Ukraine is less than the norm by 20%.

- Today in Ukraine there is not a single lake or river, where the quality of water was at the level of the first class, - said the Minister.

Semerak said that for a careless attitude to natural resources, no other enterprise in Ukraine has been punished.

He is sure that this is due to weak Ukrainian legislation, according to which for such treatment with nature only administrative and not criminal liability is provided.

- Together with the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Ecology has developed changes precisely in the criminal legislation. They provide for increased responsibility for harm to nature. However, in December 2016, the parliament very quickly passed a law that banned in 2017 any inspections, including environmental. Therefore now the Ministry of Ecology actually turned out to be under the moratorium of conducting inspections,.
