It seems that Apple has made sense of the abundance of processor cores and now intends to challenge competitors by releasing an 8-core chipset for mobile devices. This is reported by the English-language resource GSMArena, citing sources in the industry. Probable name of the upcoming "stone" - Apple A11X.

Responsibility for the production of the new processor, as before, will lie on the Taiwanese company TSMC. According to preliminary data, the development will be built on a 7-nm process, which will reduce its physical dimensions, thereby increasing the number of computational transistors.

It is alleged that the chipset will be equipped with three super-productive Monsoon cores and five energy-efficient Mistral cores.

Deliveries of "stone", according to GSMArena, will begin in the first quarter of 2018, and the first device of the company built on its basis will be the next-generation iPad Pro.

The new iPad Pro, in turn, can get not only an ultra-modern processor, but also a TrueDepth camera system, responsible for face recognition. The introduction of a new interface at the same time will entail a significant change in the design of the tablet, which in addition to all may lose the Home button.
