In 2017, the flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy S8 marked the beginning of a new trend in the communicator market - the use of frameless screens with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, due to which manufacturers were able to increase the display area while maintaining the same size of the device body. The trend is rapidly gaining popularity, and the analytical company IHS Markit predicts that the supply of such screens in a few years will increase more than threefold.

Interestingly, smartphone manufacturers not only picked up the example of Samsung, but also began to develop the idea. Experts believe that in the near future new high-quality models with an alternative aspect ratio of 18.5: 9 and 19: 9 will appear on the market.

As for the gradually aging format of 16:

9, displays of this type will continue to be used in entry-level devices and mid-range models.

According to IHS, in 2017 shipments of 18: 9 displays will be within 170 million pieces, and by 2021 they will increase to 611 million units. It is also expected that manufacturers of displays will offer panels with different image quality - 720HD + (1440 x 720 pixels), FHD + (2160 x 1,080) and WQHD + (2880 x 1440). The release of new devices with such screens is projected in the second half of 2017 and in 2018.
