American scientists have identified nine simple rules, compliance with which will help reduce cancer mortality by 35%.

Gudartz Danai of Harvard and his colleagues analyzed the data on 7 million deaths from cancer worldwide around 2001 in order to create such a "memo". Their work is published in The Lancet. Danai and his colleagues identified the following risk factors: smoking, overweight, hypodynamia, low in the diet of fruits and vegetables, alcohol, non-compliance with hygiene in sex, poor ventilation of premises when burning hydrocarbons for heating homes, infection during medical manipulations, air pollution.

According to researchers, non-compliance with these rules caused 2.43 million of all the analyzed deaths. These risk factors are not equivalent. The most important of these are smoking, overweight and inactivity - they largely determine the incidence of cancer worldwide.

In developed countries, they are supplemented by smoking and alcohol, and for poor countries the high prevalence of the human papilloma virus is one of the main causes of cervical cancer. That is, to reduce the death rate from cancer in such states will help safe sex.

Having worked out the above rules, researchers do not deny the importance of traditional medical approaches to reducing cancer mortality. First of all, they remind us of the need for regular check-ups to identify cancer in the early stages, as well as education for the prevention of cancer.
