Until today, the size of bras was set according to the formula, derived in America in 1935. For 70 years, designers have determined the size of this important attribute of women's clothing, using only two dimensions - under the chest and through it. Now, Hong Kong researchers say they have received a new mathematical formula that will bring comfort and make clothes sit better. Initially, the focus of their attention was the needs of Chinese women, but if the experience is successful, then the new system of sizes of bras will spread around the globe.

The researchers argue that in order for the bra to sit like a second skin, you need to make more than 100 measurements. However, in practice, the new size of the bra will be based only on one - the ratio of length and width (LHS).

A team of specialists from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University published an article in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics, which states that the geometry of the female breast is "very complex and must be calculated in three-dimensional space," and therefore the current size system of bras is "not suitable for Precise fitting ". As a result, according to estimates of scientists, in Britain alone, 70% of women wear bras of the wrong size.

Today, the standard cup sizes are denoted by letters of the Latin alphabet - A (for young, not breast-feeding girls), B (medium), C (large), D (very large). In the system of Hong Kong researchers used data obtained by scanning the shape of the chest of 456 Chinese women. In this 100 measurements were reduced to the most important, most accurately describing the shape of the breast. Such "key" measurements were eight. They take into account the features of the skeleton of the chest, breast size, its height, roundness and even the very shape of the bra.

Women with different types of chest (large-boned or not) should wear different sizes of bras, say scientists. It can correspond not only to the size of 34 B, but also 32 C or 36 A, whereas in practice, women are doomed only to a size of 34 V.

Using the method of CASE, scientists will increase the number of sizes of bras from 8 to 16, giving women a wider choice.
