Football. ua remembers the history of confrontations between national teams of Ukraine and Turkey.

On Saturday, September 2, Kharkov will host the match of the seventh round of the qualifying tournament of the 2018 World Cup, in which the Ukrainian team will take the team of Turkey. At the moment, opponents divide third - fourth place in the standings and are inferior to the leaders of group I, Croatia and Iceland, two points. Therefore, we should not talk about how important the duel is at the USC Metalist.

Previously, the teams met each other seven times (4 wins from the Turks, 2 draws and 1 victory in the asset of our team). At the same time, Ukraine and Turkey played three official matches (all in the qualifying tournaments of the world championships, and here the teams have equality - one victory and one draw.

Let's remember the history of confrontations between the national teams of the two countries.

May 1, 1996, friendly match Turkey - Ukraine 3-2 Goals: Shukur, 8, Jigit, 14, Kerimoglu, 33 - Shevchenko, 10, Huseynov, 34.

Ukraine: Suslov - Parfenov, Luzhny, Golovko, Shmatovalenko (Skripnik, 46) - Zhabchenko (Pokhlebayev, 59), Zotov (Mikhailenko, 35), Orbu (Kosovsky, 46), Kardash (Rebrov, 69) - Shevchenko, Huseynov.

February 12, 2003, friendly match Turkey - Ukraine 0: 0 Ukraine: Shovkovsky (Shutkov, 46) - Fedorov (Kalinichenko, 88), Nesmachny, Dmitrulin (Skripnik, 72), Starostyak (Radchenko, 62) - Tymoshchuk (Konovalov 81 ), Gusin (Popov, 82), Serebrennikov (Zubov, 46) - Rebrov, Shevchenko (Kormiltsev, 88), Voronin (Rotan, 82).

November 17, 2004, selection of World Cup 2006 Turkey - Ukraine 0: 3 Goals: Gusev, 8, Shevchenko, 17, 88.

Ukraine: Shovkovsky - Fedorov, Nesmachny, Rusol, Yezersky - Gusev, Shelaev, Gusin - Shevchenko (Nazarenko, 90 + 2), Sparrow (Dmitruulin, 75), Voronin (Rykun, 61).

An away draw against the Danes, though, set the Ukraine team's fans optimistic, but did not inspire confidence that Oleg Blokhin's team could break through to the 2006 World Cup. Still in that match, our team did not leave questions only in nature and the spirit of the fight, and luck was on the side of the guests.

But the trip to Turkey proved that we have a team that with a strong opponent is able not only to get the result on the veins, but also to demonstrate a bright, spectacular football. The Turks, two years ago returning from Japan and Korea with bronze medals, were simply destroyed. And in the memory of the fans were a double who played with the injury of the current coach of the national team of Andrey Shevchenko and a brilliant pass by Alexander Rykun.

Having seized the leadership in the group after this victory, the Ukrainian team has not lost anybody to the first place and directly made it to the world championship in Germany.

September 7, 2005, selection of World Cup 2006 Ukraine - Turkey 0: 1 Goal: Metin, 55.

Ukraine: Shovkovsky - Fedorov, Rusol, Vashchuk, Nesmachny - Gusev, Rotan (Venglinsky, 67), Shelaev (Shishchenko, 80), Timoshchuk - Voronin (Gusin, 83), Belik.

In the return match of the same qualifying round of the national team of Turkey managed to take revenge in Kiev, but for our team this defeat left only a light nasty sediment, as the first place in the group wards Oleg Blokhin by that time already guaranteed. But the Turks waged a desperate struggle for the second place, which as a result and succeeded.

Sometimes it seemed that the ticket to the World Cup in Germany, lying in the pocket of the Ukrainians, acted on them dampening. Despite the apparent desire to please 67 thousand fans who came to the Olympic, when it came to the decisive blow, then summed up the implementation.

As a result, at the beginning of the second half, the guests scored, and Metin's goal was the only one, despite good opportunities to excel at Belik, Voronin and Venglinsky.

August 12, 2009, friendly match Ukraine - Turkey 0: 3 Goals: Shanli, 58, Cetin, 63, Hamit Altintop, 65.

Ukraine: Shovkovsky - Rusol (Chigrinsky, 46), Kucher, Shevchuk (Yarmash, 46), Mandzyuk-Kalinichenko (Nazarenko, 46), Rotan, Tymoshchuk, Gai (Gusev, 46) - Gomenyuk (Shevchenko, 46), Seleznev , 46).

June 5, 2012, friendly match Turkey - Ukraine 2: 0 Goals: Erkin, 30, Pektemek, 70.

Ukraine: Pyatov - Kucher (Nazarenko, 46), Shevchuk, Rakitsky, Butko (Gusev, 64) - Rotan, Aliev (Khacheridi, 47), Konoplyanka, Garmash (Shevchenko, 46) - Milevsky, Devich (Seleznev, 68).

October 6, 2016, selection of World Cup 2018 Turkey - Ukraine 2: 2 Goals: Tufan, 45 + 1, Chalkhanoglu, 81, penalty - Yarmolenko, 24, penalties, Kravets, 27.

Ukraine: Pyatov - Butko, Kucher, Ordets, Sobol - Stepanenko, Konoplyanka (Petryak, 82), Kovalenko, Zinchenko (Sidorchuk, 46) - Kravets (Zozulya, 73), Yarmolenko.

There was an unpleasant sludge in the Ukrainian fans and after the last confrontation with the Turkish national team. Although, perhaps, if before the match they were told that the team of Andrei Shevchenko will take one point from Turkey, then the Ukrainians would be quite happy. However, the course of events in the match has already made it a draw of failure.

Less than half an hour, as the hosts burned with a score of 0: 2 after the realized Yarmolenko penalty and goal Kravets, the penalty earned. Could our guys score and third, but this time Kravets blundered, but the Turks successfully played the corner in the compensated time of the first half and scored such an important ball in the locker room.

After the break, the initiative passed to the hosts, who repeatedly could upset Pyatov, and they achieved their own, albeit after the implementation of a rather ambiguous penalty. In the remaining time, both teams could wrest victory, but the football gods decided to leave both Turkey and Ukraine among the candidates for the 2018 World Cup.

Ukraine-Turkey match will be held on September 2 in Kharkov at the USC Stadium Metallist. The beginning of the match at 21:45. Live broadcast on the TV channels Football 1 and Ukraine.
