Historical strata finally discredited the St. George ribbon, which at one time symbolized the "military feat of the people in the fight against a very powerful enemy"; In itself the St. George ribbon today does not mean anything.

This opinion was expressed to the "Observer" by a senior researcher at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, former head of the SBU archive Sergei Kokin.

"Sometimes new historical stratifications discredit symbols that were quite decently in earlier eras. This is not the first time, "- he said.

Kokin recognized: "In the historical context, the presence on holidays of such symbols is justified. St. George's ribbon was present as an element of the awards of the Second World War, where do you get away from it? Yes, it was, in this context. St. George ribbon today is applicable exclusively as a symbol of the military exploit of the people, first of all, the Red Army soldiers, and also as a symbol of the valor shown by the people, first of all, in the fight against a very powerful enemy ".

Answering the question of who has the moral right to wear a ribbon of St. George, the historian explained: "Actually, the ribbon itself was never a veteran symbol in the Soviet era. We remember, as it was noted, we were also involved in this, worked with veterans, and none of them I saw such things. On this day, they put on planks, dressed the orders. Where it was an element of the award - it was all in its place. And just by itself a ribbon - it's like hi ".

He is convinced that the exploitation of these symbols for political purposes as "long-playing" will inevitably provoke resistance in the society.

"Today, decorate yourself with a St. George ribbon on Victory Day means just a complete historical illiteracy. Of course, we still have a free country. What, we will tell each other who to wear, how to tie, what to wear? Of course, there will be people who will react to this sharply - and fairly. What relation do those who wear these symbols have to the people's struggle during the Second World War? Yes, no, "- said Kokin.

"The presence at the celebration is clearly a non-fiction - and it is clearly nevestaryny today almost everything - should be interpreted as a historical misunderstanding, as a misunderstanding.

These people do not have the right to ascribe themselves to the generation that really contributed to the struggle with a very strong enemy, "he added..

As the "Observer" wrote, historian Andrei Kholyavka earlier said: St. George's ribbon today is a symbol of separatism, aggression and aggressive Ukrainophobia; People who put this sign on themselves, thus show that they will at the first opportunity take up arms against the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian people.
