Analyst, former national security adviser to the Czech government and diplomat Tomas Pojar said that Europe and the United States perceive threats on the European continent differently, so support for Ukraine needs to be further strengthened. In an interview with Ukrinform, he explained that for Europe this war is the main security threat, because the fighting takes place directly on the territory of the European continent. At the same time, in the United States this is perceived as one of several important international challenges that is far from American territory.

The analyst noted that the United States is forced to simultaneously respond to various challenges in the world, since it has the status of a global power. According to him, in addition to the war in Europe, Washington is now focused on the situation in the Middle East, and is also closely monitoring developments in Asia. In addition, he added that the United States traditionally pays great attention to the countries of the Western Hemisphere, which can be seen in the example of policies towards Venezuela and Cuba.

“Therefore, in my opinion, Europe should realistically assess this situation and base its expectations on this. If we ourselves do not take the main responsibility for this war, do not strengthen our own defense and do not support Ukraine in its defense, then we should not hope that someone else will do this for us,” Poyar noted..

The journalist also asked whether Europe will be able to independently ensure its own security without US support in the coming years.. In response, the expert noted that European countries have not invested enough in defense over the past 30 years.. According to Pojar, if Europe begins to systematically invest in its defense capabilities over the next 10 to 30 years, then it will likely be able to take care of its own security in the future.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington's main focus now is not on Ukraine, but on the situation around Iran and attempts to end the war in the region.

Meanwhile, senior Pentagon policy official Elbridge Colby said that further support for Ukraine cannot be entirely dependent on the United States, as American reserves are gradually depleted. His statement came as European allies announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which included air defense systems, drones and weapons for long-range strikes.. Colby also stressed that Europe should rather take primary responsibility for the security of the continent.. According to him, this is not a matter of choice, but a necessity for a security strategy.
