After traveling to Malawi in January 2017, Rihanna decided to help the children of southeast Africa by announcing an initiative to support local schools with scholarships and provide them with bicycles.

The Rihanna Foundation "Clara Lionel Foundation" (CLF), founded in 2012 in honor of her grandparents, will provide scholarships for Malawi students, and, importantly, will equip them with bicycles.

Elementary schools in Malawi charge 4.6 million pupils, while the number of schools is only 8%.

The issue of transportation of schoolchildren is especially acute in the region.

"I am so glad that the new initiative of the CLF foundation helps young people from all over the world to get a quality education, in particular, it will help school girls from Malawi to get to school safely, bypassing the long distances that the girls overcome on their way to and from school independently" Rihanna said.
