One of the biggest troubles that can happen to you while traveling by plane is losing your luggage.. And some airlines make such mistakes more often than others..
A new study from OddsMonkey, cited by Express, took a deeper look into baggage loss patterns to discover which airlines are most likely to misdirect your bags.. To study this question, analysts processed more than 700,000 reviews on Tripadvisor and examined ratings from the Luggage Losers database, which tracks direct sources from more than 18,000 airports and airlines.. As a result, a rating of 25 airlines was compiled based on the level of improper baggage handling.
Aer Lingus tops the list. It has 14,003 reviews and 3.14% of them mention lost luggage. This means that for every 100 reviews, more than three passengers reported problems with suitcases not reaching their destination.
Kenya Airways also performed poorly. Problems are mentioned in 3.03% of reviews. Next comes Air Canada with 2.58%.
Royal Air Maroc and Ethiopian Airlines also ranked in the top five for baggage mishandling.. There are 2.31% and 2.21% bad reviews for them, respectively..
However, the study was not limited to only the worst indicators. On the other hand, low-cost carriers such as Jet2, Ryanair and Wizz Air performed exceptionally well, with only 0.28%, 0.32% and 0.50% of their reviews mentioning lost luggage.
UK low-cost airline Jet2 has even been named the airline with the lowest baggage complaint rate, an astonishing achievement for a budget airline..
Interestingly, British Airways, despite its status as one of the world's largest carriers, was also included in the list of unreliable items, collecting 1.21% of reviews of lost items out of 61,227 comments. Although this figure is relatively low compared to some of the other airlines on the list, it still indicates a problem that the airline needs to solve.
To study the situation with luggage losses, the study also took into account an assessment of the likelihood of such problems, taking into account the Luggage Losers database. Here the results were just as revealing.
Frontier Airlines topped the list with one in 22 passengers likely to have their luggage lost, followed by Air India and IndiGo. British Airways and Iberia also made the list with odds of one in 47 and one in 56 respectively.. These airlines have a higher likelihood of baggage mishandling, despite their size and industry reach.
But it's not all bad for passengers..
On the other hand, airlines such as Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air not only performed best on Tripadvisor, but also had the most favorable baggage handling rates. So for Wizz Air the probability of losing things was one chance out of 131, and Jet2’s indicators are even better - only one case out of 674.
