The Ghent City Council for Art and Design voted to remove de Zeger from the post of director and conduct an audit of the museum's activities. In his opinion, de Zeger discredited the city by exhibiting questionable works of the Russian avant-garde in MSK Ten people voted for the suspension of the director against 2, while Catherine de Zeger herself did not attend the meeting and did not provide documents about Igor Toporovsky's collection that had previously been requested by the Council. The interim director was appointed the chief curator of MSK Johan de Smet.

According to the Belgian newspaper De Standaart, after the removal of de Zeger in the museum, a comprehensive audit will be conducted, the purpose of which is to find out whether the museum has fulfilled all the necessary requirements and procedures for studying the collection of the Dilegma Foundation before its exposure in a public institution. Also, the staff of the museum will be interviewed, they were not allowed to speak about a dubious exhibition, while the institution was headed by De Zeger.

An emergency meeting of the Council for Art and Design was convened on March 7 after the Belgian media reported that Catherine de Seger was lying to Ghent officials. A few days before, de Zeger informed the City Council on Art and Design, which attracted international experts Magdalena Dombrovski and Noemi Smolik to study the collection of Igor Toporovsky. However, when the newspaper De Standaard contacted them, Dombrowski and Smolik denied this information: they were not asked for help, moreover, they advised de Zeger to deal with an unknown collection. Noemi Smolik noted that for the first time I saw the works already at the exhibition at the MSK Museum.

Discussion (or rather, a scandal) around the works began in mid-January, when a group of scientists, curators and art dealers called the works of the Russian avant-garde exposed in MSK "a lot of questions". The investigation undertaken by journalists led to the fact that the Parliament and the Ministry of Culture of Flanders were forced to intervene. MSK, led by Catherine de Seger, withdrew work from the exposition, and the foundation agreed to inspect the selected works by experts. However, the Dilegm Foundation then obstructed the work of the international commission of experts, the museum was forced to sever relations with him and return the work to him.
