The Czech Republic and Germany are preparing a joint application to UNESCO so that the Ore Mountains, which are located on the border between Bohemia (Czech Republic) and Saxony (Germany), are on the World Heritage List.

Ore Mountains - one of the oldest mining areas in Europe. The first mention of the extraction of tin and silver here refers to 1168. The application specifies the mountains themselves with their natural and cultural landscape, as well as ancient settlements, notes EuroPulse.

The application for the granting of World Heritage status to the Ore Mountains is going to be submitted for the second time. The idea was proposed by the authorities of Saxony in 1998, by 2004 the first application was prepared, but it was withdrawn because of administrative issues that could prevent the region from obtaining the status of World Heritage.

Officially, the application will be submitted next year, and the decision will be made no earlier than 2019.
