In the opening of the monument took part the deputy chairman - head of the HOGA Anatoly Babichev.

"Peter Gulak-Artemovsky - an outstanding educator, a significant personality in the history of Ukrainian literature and in the history of our country as a whole. It was around him and Kharkov University, which he headed, in the 19th century Ukrainian culture developed, the first Ukrainian magazine was created, the printing house. This was extremely important in the conditions of the Russian Empire, - said Anatoly Babichev.

According to the rector of the university Vilya Bakirov, the idea to create a monument to a well-known Ukrainian writer appeared long ago.

"On the territory of the university there are many monuments to outstanding scientists - physicists, mathematicians, biologists and others.. But the university did a lot for the development of the Ukrainian language and literature, and one of its rectors, Petr Gulak-Artemovsky, personally, "said Vil Bakirov.

Funds for the monument collected the public, the main patron was the president of the company DSH Alexander Yaroslavsky. During the opening ceremony, the rector of the University handed the vice-president of DCH Elena Derevyanko a letter of thanks and a reduced bronze copy of the monument.

The opening of the monument was attended by the Deputy Minister of Science and Education of Ukraine Maxim Strikh, the famous Ukrainian poet Ivan Drach, teachers and students of the Karazin University.
