In Italy, 103 historic buildings, including medieval castles, villas and monasteries, will be transferred to new owners free of charge, so that the latter will make them places for tourists. These buildings are located along eight traditional tourist routes in the center of the country, as well as on the islands of Sicily and Sardinia, Rosbalt reports with reference to CNBC.

"The project is aimed at supporting and promoting a slow growing tourism sector. Its goal is to turn unused private and public buildings into places for backpackers, cyclists and pilgrims, "said a representative of the state real estate agency Roberto Reggie.

It is reported that applicants for obtaining real estate in the ownership for a period of nine years (with the possibility of an extension for another nine) must, before June 26, send an application to the agency. Particular preference will be given to applicants under the age of 40. If the project succeeds, the government will "present" to the interested persons about 200 more objects within two years.
