At a press conference in Brussels on the eve of the opening of the EU summit, the head of the European Council Donald Tusk said that he still believes in the possibility of preserving the UK within the European Union.

Tusk said: "Some of my British friends ask me if it's possible to cancel Brexit? I tell them that the EU was built on dreams that seemed impossible. So - who knows? You can say that I am a dreamer, but not the only one ".

According to the head of the European Council, Britain's withdrawal from the EU is "the most difficult process". He noted: "Negotiations began three days ago. This is the most difficult process to which the EU is well prepared ".

As previously reported, the official talks between London and Brussels on the terms on which the UK will withdraw from the EU began three days ago, on June 19 in the Belgian capital. They should last until November 2018, after which the parties will have six months to ratify the agreements reached in national parliaments.
