Sofia plans to raise the issue of lifting sanctions against Russia, when Bulgaria will start the presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2018. On Wednesday, September 20, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said after meeting with the head of the Polish Cabinet of Ministers Beata Shidlo.

"A solution must be calmly and pragmatically ... If we find enough arguments, unite our efforts to reach a compromise, it will be good. But it is necessary to preserve unity, "the Bulgarian Prime Minister quotes the BNR radio..

At the same time, he stressed that "nothing has been decided, now there are only ideas, there is a lot of work and arguments".

Borisov said that even in a conversation with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras promised to raise the topic of anti-Russian sanctions, when Sofia will be replaced by the EU presidency.

In turn, Shidlo noted that Poland and the Baltic States are concerned about what is happening in Russia and Ukraine.

According to her, Warsaw will support the lifting of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation only after the fulfillment of the Minsk accords.

Earlier, on September 6, during the joint press conference of Boyko and Tsipras after the signing of an agreement between Greece and Greece in Athens on the construction of the railway, the Greek prime minister said: "As for Russia, both our countries can play the role of a bridge between the EU and Russia, since we have traditional ties based on a common cultural tradition, on shared memory, which can facilitate this role ".
