Due to the anomalous heat this year, Europe is waiting for the most meager crop of vegetables over the past 40 years, according to the European Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers (PROFEL). Most of all, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary and Poland suffered from the drought.

Worst of all was peas and other leguminous crops - their harvest is expected to be less than the norm by 20% - 50%. Also, onion, zucchini and spinach were not born, and in the southern regions farmers could not grow the second crop of cauliflower and beans.

According to the association, vegetable producers for three consecutive years are facing great problems because of the weather.

In addition to the abnormally high temperatures, these are floods and sudden showers and hail, notes Europulse.

Recently, the European Commission decided to weaken the "green" requirements to help farmers: in some regions, restrictions on watering have become less severe, in other farmers allowed to plant vegetables in beds that were supposed to "rest" this year from crops. Representatives of the association stressed that, despite the poor harvest, the prices for vegetables should not grow.
