Europe has already lost the war against Russia, so the best thing the EU can do is to lift sanctions and other restrictions on Russian oil and gas. This is exactly the scenario of European capitulation proposed by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szjatro in a tweet today.
The following is the text in the original language. The readiness of the current Ugric government to place its country at Putin’s feet has not been heard for a long time. And it is clear that Russian nafta is not the main reason for such statements. Naftoprovid " This plant is in the hands of private authorities, and the capture of cheap Russian oil by it will deprive them of the large profits of their authorities, rather than lead to cheaper gasoline for the oil industry itself.. Gasoline in Ugorshchina costs the same or is more expensive, lower in neighboring countries, and the difference between cheap naphtha and the price of a stove is simply lost in the guts of power refineries.
The Russian-Ukrainian war is taking place in the very center of Europe. Go from Budapest to the Kramatorsk Mensch after the end of the line of the Ukrainian front - it’s significantly closer, it’s building up. Once the war in Ukraine ends, the future security system for the entire continent will be laid down. And in any scenario, Russia is about to lose its protection, since it is already openly accepting Europe as its enemy number one.
Today's Ugric politicians are ready to exchange their land and the entire continent for profits from any private plant. And yet the tragedy is not less for Ukraine.
The imposition of sanctions by Europe on Russian naphtha is a significant strategic defeat for Europeans in the war against Russia without a fatal attack. What is significant is the transition from the aggressor’s motivation to the actual financing of the Russian army. Europe, as it felt strong and sung, would actually sign off on the powerlessness that legitimized Russian blackmail.
There is nothing surprising when Russian politicians say things like this. But such rhetoric from the leaders of the EU member states discredits the very idea of a united Europe and shows how much the European Union needs to change so that we are prepared to ensure our security at once.
This all means that the concept of the “steel porcupine” invented by Europeans will require a rethink.
Such a “porcupine” is not only Ukraine, but the whole of Europe - together with Ukraine.
Starting from the past, Putin changed his rhetoric: now his main enemy is no longer the USA, but Europe itself. This is also the start of the process of militarization of the EU, which actually began in 2025.
And why would the proposal about lifting sanctions on Russian oil and gas, voiced by Peter Siyatro, mean a new capitulation of Europe and a strategic defeat for ten years to come?.
