On Friday, October 24, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, signed a decree appointing Alexandru Munteanu as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the country. The decision was made after consultations with parliamentary factions. “I wish you success in forming a government that will win the trust of parliament and fulfill the most important expectations of citizens: protecting peace, preparing the country for accession to the EU, strengthening the economy and raising people’s living standards,” the head of state said. According to the decree, Munteanu must present to parliament the composition of the government and the program of activities in order to receive a vote of confidence.. Local media report that the faction of the Action and Solidarity (PAS) party has officially proposed Munteanu as a candidate for the post of prime minister. Party leader Igor Grosu, after a meeting with Sandu, said that “after the decree is issued, a cabinet of ministers and a program of its activities will be proposed to Alexandru Muntean,” after which the candidate will begin consultations with parliamentary factions.
