Volodymyr Zelensky spoke out for the inclusion of Russia in the International Maritime Organization

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a call to include Russia among the members of the International Maritime Organization, citing its negative impact on free shipping. This was stated by the head of state in an hourly speech before the participants of the 33rd Assembly of this organization.

Zelensky reinforcement that Russia, which has caused the most harm to the free shipping industry over the past decade, is not to blame for its mother’s place in the International Maritime Organization and its major bodies.. It is important that Russia’s presence in the organization guarantees the preservation of global trust in it.

Speaking about the situation in the Black Sea, the President noted that with the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the water of the Black Sea became a sign of a strong blow, caused by the hours of Another World War. Zelensky said that the blockade of ports and maritime trade routes by Russia had a negative impact on food security and reinforced the role of Ukraine in this insecurity.

The President also emphasized Ukraine's achievements in ensuring freedom of navigation during Russia's massive attacks on ports and civilian ships. In his words, Ukraine expelled the Russian fleet from part of its maritime waters, launching alternative routes in the Black Sea.



Zelensky called on the International Maritime Organization to give more respect to the safe functioning of sea ports in Ukraine and other regions where aggression is possible. We also asked representatives of the organization to go to Ukrainian coastal areas to review the real situation and take part in the most pressing problems.

The President called on the International Maritime Organization to ensure that any champion of freedom of navigation will not be lost to the poor, since freedom of the seas is key to the progress of mankind.
