On Saturday, April 29, in the capital of Latvia - Riga - a picket was held near the Russian embassy against Russia's interference in the internal politics of Latvia, writes Delfi. The protesters opposed the adoption by the State Duma of Russia of the statement “On the inadmissibility of the repressive policy of the leadership of the Baltic countries against the Russian-speaking population” and the possible aggressive policy of Russia against the Baltic countries.

The picket was organized by the Russian Voice of Latvia society. According to local media, 30 to 50 people gathered to protest.

At the very beginning, the protesters unfurled a large black banner with the words " The protesters also uttered the slogans “Europe is important to us, and peace is important to Europe”, “Suitcase, train station, The Hague”, “Rokas nost no musu valsts” (“Hands off our country”) and “Grandfather, drink your pills”.

In the middle of the picket, the head of the board of the Russian Voice of Latvia, Martin Levushkan, made a statement. In particular, he condemned Russia's attempts to interfere in the internal politics of Latvia and influence the Russian-speaking residents of the country: “The Russian leadership is systematically poisoning our society, using Russian and Russian-speaking residents of Latvia to promote their interests, maintain a sphere of influence, create an atmosphere of tension in our country and in. Through aggressive propaganda, through so-called soft power, through lies and manipulation. This is not about isolated cases, but about a comprehensive policy. We see how they replace concepts, rewrite history, mislead people with their false propaganda.. We see how they use their agents and supporters to incite hatred, to draw Russian and Russian-speaking residents of Latvia into the Kremlin's sphere of influence, to stir up mutual grievances, weaken democratic foundations, unity and cohesion of the Latvian political nation... There is no need to protect or liberate us. Defend yourself in The Hague, liberate the countries and peoples you have occupied, and leave us at last in peace.! We are not your compatriots! Our choice is Europe. Our path is democracy. Our homeland is Latvia”.

On April 18, the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted for the statement “On the inadmissibility of the repressive policy of the leadership of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in relation to the Russian-speaking population”. In particular, the Russians accused the authorities of these countries of “neo-fascism” and the implementation of a “criminal course towards the total displacement of the Russian language from all spheres of public life”.

As early as this week, a number of media outlets have published documents that say the Kremlin has drawn up a set of plans to determine how it can exert its influence in the Baltic states over the coming years..
