According to the seismological center, the source of the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 was at a depth of 43 km. Earlier, EMSC recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 at a depth of 40 km.

The first tremors occurred 202 kilometers west of Padang (population 840 thousand people), the second - 177 kilometers west of Pariaman (92 thousand people).
