China is building sophisticated cyberweapons to seize control of enemy satellites, making them immune to data signals or surveillance during wartime, according to the Financial Times, citing US intelligence leaks..

The United States believes that China's desire to develop capabilities to jam, use, or steal enemy satellites is a key part of its goal to control information that Beijing considers the basis for warfare.. The CIA document reviewed by the publication is one of dozens allegedly shared by 21-year-old US Air Guard soldier Jack Teixeira..

Such cyber capability would vastly surpass any capability Russia has deployed in Ukraine, where electronic warfare teams are using brute force tactics with little effect.. These attacks, first developed in the 1980s, attempt to jam signals between SpaceX's low-orbit satellites and their ground terminals by broadcasting truck-borne jamming systems, such as Tirada-2, on similar frequencies..

China's more ambitious cyberattacks aim to mimic the signals that enemy satellites receive from their operators, tricking them into taking full possession of them or incapacitating them during decisive moments in combat.. The US secret document says this cyber capability would allow China to seize control of the satellite, making it ineffective for maintaining communications, or intelligence and surveillance systems..

The US has never disclosed whether they have such capabilities..

Taiwan, which has appreciated how important satellite communications are to the Ukrainian army, is already trying to build a communications infrastructure that can withstand an attack from China..

Hours before a full-scale invasion on February 24 last year, a Russian cyberattack disabled thousands of Ukrainian military routers of the American company Viasat.. It also brought service to thousands of Viasat customers in Poland, Italy and Germany to a standstill, where several hundred wind turbines were damaged..

The Viasat hack involved breaking into the company's computer systems and sending instructions to the modems that caused them to malfunction..

China's goals, according to social media assessment, much more progressive. Experts say they will try to eliminate the ability of satellites, which typically operate in interconnected clusters, to communicate with each other, transmit signals and orders to weapons systems, or send visual and intercepted electronic data..

US military officials have warned that China has made significant progress in developing military space technology, including satellite communications..

General Chance Saltzman, commander of the US Space Forces, told Congress last month that Beijing is actively developing anti-space capabilities in an attempt to realize its dream of becoming the leading state outside the Earth's atmosphere by 2045..

"

Saltzman said the Chinese military has deployed 347 satellites, including 35 launched in the past six months, to monitor, track, target and attack US forces in any future conflict..

Charlie Moore, a retired air force general who served as US Deputy Cyber \u200b\u200bCommander, believes China is making a huge effort to counter the asymmetric advantage the US had in cyber and space..

“Beijing understands Washington’s advantage in space and cyber, so they are very interested not only in improving their own capabilities, but also in capitalizing on what we call first-party advantage in both,” Moore said..

He added that China is working on all the capabilities that can be useful in terms of defense and offensive, as well as in terms of ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance)..
