This is reported by the Washington Post.

Former journalist Roy, representing the Democratic Party, managed to outstrip Republican Robert Marshall, who calls himself "the main homophobe of Virginia".

In support of Roy, representatives of the LGBT community spoke, and thanks to their benevolence, the ex-journalist managed to collect donations in the amount of more than half a million dollars during the election campaign, while Marshall secured financial support three times less.

Having won the legislative elections, Roy will be the first open transgender in the public office in the United States.

According to media reports, in the 1990s the transgender already held a position in the Massachusetts parliament, but he did not openly state this and did not focus on this during the election campaign. In addition, the transgender won the elections in New Hampshire in 2012, but his inauguration did not take place.

As previously reported in URA-Inform, the former mayor of Tbilisi's capital Tbilisi was elected former footballer of Dynamo Kiev and current vice-premier and minister of energy of Georgia Kakha Kaladze.
