The head of the US Senate Committee on Armed Services, Republican John McCain, called on President Donald Trump to "turn the shameful page" in the country's history and still transfer modern weapons to Ukraine to repel Russia's aggression. He wrote about this in a column on his website. "The United States should step up pressure on Russia until it is persuaded to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, to stop destabilizing the situation, supporting the country's collaborators," the senator writes.. McCain said that Moscow should begin to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"On the basis of this important step, President Trump must, in the end, take measures to abolish the weak policy of his predecessor and transfer the defensive lethal assistance that it deserves to Ukraine to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity from Russian aggression," McCain writes.. The United Nations in recent months has noted a 48 percent increase in the number of dead and wounded among civilians in the Donbass from the hostilities initiated by Putin's Russia, the senator said.. "President Trump has the opportunity to turn the page of the shameful chapter in American history and give Ukraine defensive lethal assistance approved by Congress," he concluded.. Source: LIGA.
