US Secretary of Defense James Mattis during a visit to Kabul said that the United States will confront Russia in Afghanistan because of its supply of arms to the Taliban in this country, reports NV referring to the AR.

"We will cooperate with Russia on a diplomatic level. We will do this wherever possible, but we will confront Russia, in those areas where their actions are contrary to international law or violate the sovereignty of other countries, "said Mattis.

The US Secretary of Defense, in particular, said that he considers violation of international law, including the supply of arms to Afghanistan from any other country.

He suggested that the commander of the US forces in the country, General John Nicholson, tell what kind of weapons Russia is supplying.

General Nicholson, for his part, did not go into details, but noted that "there will not be a refutation of the fact of Russian arms supplies to local Taliban". Thus, for the first time among high-ranking US officials, he publicly pointed out that Russian assistance to the Taliban includes, among other things, arms transfers.
