In his work, the famous urban and forest researcher Philippe Gartner used satellite imagery, in which he applied the method of determining the types of points, calling it the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (Index of a normalized variety of vegetation).

NDVI analyzes the results of 43 cities to determine whether the target area contains live vegetation or not.

So, according to NDVI Kiev took the first place with the index - 0.

389 in the list of the "greenest" cities in Europe with a population of more than two million in the number of living vegetation.

Also among the records of "gardening" in second place - Berlin with the index - 0. 246. The index of London - 0. 135, while Moscow - 0.143. But the first position in the list of "the greenest coastal capitals" was taken by Monaco, with the index - 0. 439.
