Some Ukrainians voluntarily become donors to save the lives of other people. In particular, there are certain social guarantees for blood donors. The Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) in the Luhansk region told what changes have occurred in the provision of benefits for donors.

What benefits have been canceled for donors in Ukraine.

The PFU explained that in accordance with paragraph 2 of the Final Provisions of the Law of September 30, 2020 No. 931-IX “On the Safety and Quality of Donated Blood and Blood Components”, from January 26, 2026, some benefits for blood donors were canceled in Ukraine:.

mandatory additional day of rest after donation;

payment of 100% temporary disability benefits regardless of the insurance period;

cash bonuses for scholarships or cash support for conscripts;

pension supplement for Honorary Donors of Ukraine in the amount of 10% of the subsistence level.

What benefits can donors receive?.

The PFU noted that in accordance with Art.. 124 of the Labor Code, donors’ rights to:.

exemption from work on the day of donating blood/components at an enterprise, institution or organization, regardless of the form of ownership, while maintaining average earnings;

the right to a free health examination before the procedure and to provide the donor with free food or monetary compensation for lunch on the day of blood donation.

The Fund added that if an additional day of rest for a donation made earlier was not used before January 26, 2026, the employee still has the right to use it or add it to annual leave, since this right is guaranteed by the Labor Code.

In accordance with this law, previously, donors who during the year donated free of charge blood in a total amount equal to two single maximum permissible doses, or blood plasma in a total amount equal to four single maximum permissible doses prepared by the apheresis method, or platelets in two single donations using the apheresis method, temporary disability benefits due to illness were paid in the amount of 100% of the average salary of the donor, regardless of.

This benefit was provided within a year after the donation of blood and/or blood components in the specified quantities.
